Babcock Neighborhood School

The Babcock Neighborhood School

BNS offers a “place-based” environmentally focused “greenSTEAM” educational program that integrates science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics within a thoughtfully provided holistic learning environment.

Classes in Session Fall 2017

While many charter schools limit enrollment to early grades at startup and then phase in upper grades, BNS will serve students up through grade six in its inaugural year. Current plans call for addition of 7th grade for the 2018-19 school year, with 8th grade available the following year.

Anticipated Programs at the Babcock Neighborhood School

Babcock Neighborhood School (BNS) is a free public K-8 charter school open to all students in kindergarten through grade eight who qualify to attend a public school in Charlotte County. This includes out-of-district students who are allowed to request admission under Florida’s new open enrollment law.

While Babcock Neighborhood School’s anticipated student population will likely mirror the student population of Charlotte County Public Schools, BNS fills a need that will be created by the future development of Babcock Ranch. At completion, the town of Babcock Ranch is projected have over 19,000 residences, which will house over 50,000 people. Babcock Neighborhood School provides a community-based educational option for these families.

About Babcock Ranch

Situated on 18,000 acres, adjacent to an extensive wilderness preserve, Babcock Ranch features hiking and biking paths, greenways and lakes, all ready to serve as the ultimate experiential learning classroom for Babcock Neighborhood School (BNS). The Babcock Ranch community, focused on clean renewable energy strategies, including Florida Green Building Coalition certified buildings and 75 MW solar farm, offers a lesson in eco-stewardship for students. As students collaborate with business owners, learn about health and wellness, and gain a first hand understanding of the farm-to-table movement, they will discover that their contributions have value to the entire town of Babcock Ranch.
